2Last weekend, the Board of Directors of the Coral Springs Swim Club hosted their Annual Banquet at the Ballroom of Temple Kol Tikva in Parkland. This highly anticipated is one of CSSC’s most enjoyable traditions. Every year, swimmers of all ages and their families enjoy a formal dinner dancing with their coaches. 308 attendees gathered Saturday night to celebrate another year of swimming, friendships and successes. “It was amazing to see such a huge crowd,” said Danica Schimansky, President of the Board of Directors. We grow every year and this year we had our biggest turnout ever. The swimmers enjoy seeing each other all dressed up with dry hair,” joked Schimansky. “They all looked amazing!” she added.

To open the event, Schimansky welcomed everyone and thanked all volunteers, parents, coaches and swimmers for their hard work and dedication. She then went on to introduce CSSC Swim Club Board of Directors as well as CSSC employees and volunteers who work behind the scenes and help ensure that the swim club runs smoothly.

2016 CSSC Banquet

Each Coach proudly presented the Coaches’ Award recipients of the year for each of the nine training groups. The Board of Directors together with Head Coach Bruno Darzi made several other important recognitions, such as the Volunteer of the Year, Swimmer Volunteer of the Year, Swimmers of the Year, IMX and IMR Scores Certificates. Each award was followed with joy as the crowd clapped for each recipient. This is just part of what makes the family-friendly atmosphere unique. Schimansky noted “This year the swimmers showed so much support for each other. The cheers for each swimmer were so loud. I love to see that.”

The Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Frank Biro. His daughter Delaney swims with the national group and has been with the team about 9 years. Biro runs the Omnisport at swim meets. He has trained every new Omnisport operator CSSC has acquired in the past 4 years. Biro is a Broward County Sheriff and often turns down shifts to volunteer at our meets when we are short and need him to run Omnisport. Biro’s dedication to CSSC goes beyond support for his daughter as he often volunteers at swim meets even when his daughter is not swimming. He has been known to work a night shift and head straight to a meet with zero sleep. Biro is always smiling and friendly and in Schimansky’s words, “a true pleasure to work with”.

One of the most significant events of the night was the presentation of the Michael Lohberg Scholarship Awards to qualifying graduating seniors. In 2013, CSSC established a scholarship fund to honor the memory and life’s work of the late Michael Lohberg, six-time Olympic Coach and founder of CSSC. The purpose of the scholarship is to “recognize swimmers in the [club] who exemplify outstanding achievement in school, athletics, and sportsmanship. At the banquet, three graduating seniors were presented with their scholarship awards.
