College roundup: O'Shaughnessy Wins Two, Leads Seton Hall, Prepares For Big East Championships

Sophomore Ryan O'Shaughnessy won two events to lead Seton Hall to a convincing 182.5-108.5 victory over Marist this past weekend in the Pirates regular season-ender at the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium in South Orange, N.J.

The Pirates finished the regular season at 9-2.

O'Shaughnessy, 19, won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:12.41 and 200-yard individual medley in 1:58.18. He was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.63.

O'Shaugnessy was also a member of the third-place 200-yard medley relay that finished in 1:38.47.

SOFLO’S TOP PERFORMERS AT REGIONS

Steph Campo, Coral Springs Charter. The eighth grader had her best meet of the season qualifying for two finals and finishing with two eighth places in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.90 and 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.51.

Brandon Goldman, St. Thomas Aquinas. The sophomore broke two minutes for the first time in the 200-yard individual medley to finish third in 1:59.72, swam a best time of 55.09 in the 100-yard backstroke to finish fourth and helped lead the Raiders to the Region 4-3A boys team title over defending state champion Miami Palmetto.

Emily Kopas, University School: The freshman earned the No. 1 ranking in the state after knocking off state champion and record holder Lindsey McKnight at the Region 4-1A meet in 1:03.48, an automatic All-American time. She was also second in the 200 IM in another season-best 2:07.68.

Lindsey McKnight, American Heritage. The junior won the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best 50.35, an automatic All-American time and was a member of two winning relays and led the girls team to its first Region 4-1A title since 2003.

Jenna Moodie, Cypress Bay. The sophomore turned in her lifetime best in the 100-yard freestyle to finish second in the Region 4-3A meet. She posted back-to-back best times in prelims (54.61) and finals (53.90).

Valerio Rasi, Grandview Prep. The senior was second in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:58.44 and third in the 100-yard backstroke in 53.74 at the Region 4-1A meet and will make his U.S. debut at the state high school meet.

Admission is $8 per session at all state meets.
