I requested to combined October and November so people can understand what these high school kids have to contend with over a two month period. OK here we go... First up was the BCAA'S held at The Plantation Aquatic Complex. Senior 1 had 9 high school swimmers competing at this meet. This was a great opportunity to get a taste for what was to come in the next several weeks. They produced 18 best times out of 33 swims. Senior 1 also competed in The Mike Horgan Invite the same weekend. This meet included both high school and middle school swimmers. My kids produced 18 best times out of 35 swims. Notable performances: Danny Gomez dropped 7 seconds in the 400 im and 4 in the 2 im: Gui Hada dropped 3 in the 2 free and 4 in the 100 fr: Alexio Musleh dropped 3 in the 100 br.
Now it starts to get tricky with the start of The High School State Series. There was another state class added to the mix. Senior 1 had swimmers in 9 different high schools which were very spread out with the extra class. All my swimmers managed to advance to their regional meets. Outstanding performances were DISTRICT CHAMPS AUGUST CHARNI AND EMILY JURICH!!!
Regionals were even a bit more tricky. All the state meets in the past were held on the same weekend but with the changes there were two weekends. This was challenging as a coach but my kids did not disappoint... Competition at this point is tough and best times don't mean advancement to states.
Senior 1 individual advances to STATES included August Chari, Brenden Teeters, Bryce Pierce, Emily Jurich who was*REGIONAL CHAMP*, Rebecca Wilkerson and Sebastian Vargas. Senior 1 relay state qualifiers: Andrew Szatkowsky, Josh Cutter, Kristen Sauer, Lindsey Sauer and Nicole Gautieri. My swimmers made me proud with 11 of them attending the meet! Not to mention 5 out of 6 individuals making finals :) Notable performances by A finalist. Emily Jurich 7th and Rebecca Wilkerson 6th! It was very exciting but not done yet...
The saga continued to Winter Champs. Another challenge for my high school people and a chance for my middle school athletes to step up. It was a fun meet with great swims and lessons learned...Notable performances: Nick Dwort with 6 out of 7 finals swims: Emily Jurich with a second place finish in the 100 breast: Alexio Musleh was 1st in the 400 im, 100 breast, 200 free, 200 im and 200 fly. He also WON SECOND PLACE HIGH POINT. Last but not least Sebastian Vargas finished with a SECOND PLACE HIGH POINT as well... It was a great couple months for Senior 1. See you at the pool
