Florida Gold Coast Takes Fifth At Southern Zone LC Championships In Texas

Now that the official standings are in, Florida Gold Coast All-Stars walked away with a pair of fifth-place team finishes in the girls and boys competition at the Southern Zone Long Course Championships in Rockwall, Texas.

Coral Springs Swim Club’s trio of Steph Campo, Catharine Cooper and Isabella Pittinger picked up valuable national experience during the weeklong competition.

On the final day of competition, Cooper, competing in her biggest meet, was 15th in the 50-meter

freestyle in 29.29. Cooper led off the seventh-place 11-12 200-meter freestyle relay that finished in 1:56.41 with Jessica Nava, Bianca Monti and Alicia Mancilla.

Pittinger swam 32.38 in the 50-meter butterfly.

North Carolina Swimming won the girls team title with 408.5 points to edge Florida Swimming with 398.

The Florida Gold Coast girls finished fifth with 257 points among the 14-team field featuring some of the nation’s top age group swimmers.

Georgia Swimming won the boys crown with an impressive 573 points. Florida Swimming was a distant second with 340.5.

Florida Gold Coast boys totaled 227.5, buoyed by the 15-18 200-meter freestyle relay victory in 1:37.31 with Alec Wathen, Danny Hartley, Quinn Cassidy and Gage Kohner on the final day.
